Hi - I've got a problem with the shifter - I start the car, press the brake - then when I try to press the button on the shifter as usual, it will not go in to gear. I have to wait until I actually hear and feel the release after a few minutes, then press the button again & it works just fine. I'm concerned I will get somewhere, and it will finally stop working at all! Any thoughts please? Thank you

there should be a emergency release to the top right of you shifter.pop of the little cover and push down inside with something like a pen.

hmm I've seen this. Check to see if your brake light come when you press the brake. And, you should hear a click when you press the brake. If not... there is some type of control unit possible located under the dash near you knees. Maybe Maybe. I'm speaking from past experience on another Japaneese(sp) car. If it is that control unit they can be replace in a matter of minutes if it's located where I think.oh and be careful.. you maybe able to drive the car by pushing that unit down on the shifter, but your brake light may not work.

Yes, good idea to check your brake lights....

about 15 years ago I was having trouble with my Mustang, my cruise wouldn't disengage when I hit the brakes, was like that for 6 months or so. Turns out it was my brake switch, and the lights weren't coming on either. I never thought to check the lights, but I should have.

Smart thinking guys. Looking at the brake lights is a quick and easy way to verify that the brake switch is working.
