Hi all,

This is my first post on the forums (skipped the welcome section, as this issue is critical).

So, to the fun parts:

I decided to replace the tranny filter on my 2007 Nissan Versa 1.8S 4spd Auto today, because i Just hit 90,000 miles and I did the filter on my old crystler van and it shifted and ran much smoother.
I figured I would do the same easy change on the Versa. I have never been so wrong. After finding out that the nut was loose on top of the valve body, I removed it and got the new filter installed, pan back on ( couldn't find a gasket anywhere, so had to make due with RTV (even the stealership didn't have them in stock). And now the car won't shift out of park!

I tried rolling the car, but it's definitely in park, and even tried shifting, thinking it was stuck as if parked on a hill, but its not. I tired pushing down the shift lock button and still no luck.

I put the manual valve back on the shifter lever when I installed the valve body again, but I never put the shifter into the neutral position upon re installation (it wouldn't shift when the valve body was out of the car).

Any thoughts on this guys? I am about to tear the pan back off and get back on my back to figure this out, I am supposed to be leaving in 2 days on a huge trip with this thing, and I need it to be ready by Thursday!

Welcome aboard!

Seems to me I ran into this on a Frontier trans... Basically, there was a cylindrical valve on the valve body that has to "engage" with the shifter mechanism rod before reinstallation.

Pull it back apart, and have someone move the shift lever while you observe the interface with the valve body... you should be able to see how it works.

If you need the FSM, we can give you the transmission section to review as well.

Thanks AXHitman, I appreciate the help. I have the fsm, which is what I used to remove the valve body and reinstall with the manual valve. Ill pull it back out tomorrow morning, and see if I can get it to shift. Should I be able to shift the car with the valve body completely removed?

That I'm not sure on. I think the cylinder has to be engaged with the linkage or plunger or whatever it is on a God-forsaken autotragic. :)

what do you mean by the cylinder has to be engaged? Which cylinder?

Wishing I had a standard in the worst way right now, lol

So, I didn't follow the procedure exactly as the FSM describes, now that I'm looking at it again. I didn't disconnect the negative terminal from the battery, and I left the car in park when I began the process (though, it didn't say to shift it to neutral, it says to shift the manual lever to neutral once everything is out of the car via moving the shifter selector on the tranny, and not in the car).

The MSF says to "set the manual shaft in the "N" position" Does that mean move the shifter into the Neutral position? How does that work if the negative terminal is off, wouldn't the safety switch prevent the shifter from releasing from the locked park position?
