shifter snap rings

I'm installing my shifter after a trans overhaul and I'm having difficulty remembering how those snap rings go and finding a tool to compress the one without holes in it. Can anyone walk me through the process? I'm anxious to be done!

If you have a mini pair of neede nose pliers that would do it. If not go to your local auto parts store and pay the 6 bucks (if that) for the snap ring pliers.

I have snap ring pliers but they don't work on the one just has plain ends with no holes or other means of grabbing it to compress it. It's like it needs a miniature ring compressor.

That one you just push down into the hole. same with the snap-ring one. Just put one side in then hold that side and push the other side it will compress itself and slide down in
