Hey this ones for you guys that have taken your stock shifter out of your transmission. I just recently took mine off the entire assembly and its all together nothing missing.

I am concerned about this funny movement in the shifter, if you hold the bottom plate and tug on the top of the shifter where the nob goes. it has like some play in it, like it will move straight up until its cought by the clip. i didn't really notice it when it was on the transmission but is this normal? have any of you seen the same thing on yours? it just seems strange...

if I'm not mistaken that play should go away when you hook it back up to the transmission.

two snap rings? in side the body of the sifter assembly? if that's the case i can see that being the problem, i see another groove just below the first one and looks like something went there, but nothing there.

you are talking about the snap rings in the shifter and not the ones that hold the little rubber boot on arent you?

Why not get a short shifter and be done with it? Your shifter is about 18 years old, it's gonna be worn out a little.

just got threw rebuilding the shifter assembly all new stuffs on it. besides im not really sure if the transmission is good anymore so im not ready to put a short shifter on till i know everything is in good working order. I do plan on saving up for a B&M short or a nismo sold shifter.

^^^^Thanks. I have a B&M, if you get one make sure it's a second generation one. the first gen shifters vibrate like all hell.

Yea I've heard about the double snap rings but only saw one transmission (s14) that had it. I would check to make sure your snap ring is all the way down in the groove.

its definitely in the groove, very hard to get out of the groove without the tool. just below the Grove is another groove not nearly as deep but a definite groove. I called the dealer today and asked one of the guys if there was more than one snap ring or washer or spring below the first one and he couldnt seem to find one anything so im still kinda lost.
