Shifter loose

It bothers me alot, because it make knocking noise when i driving. Even i am in gear, it is still freely to swin around. Can anyone tell me how to fix it? Is it caused by the big piece black rubber that lay above to the transmission?

how loose is it? could just be the white bushing at the base of the shifter stalk. I hear those are prone to wearing out. only a couple of bucks at the dealer

Yeah...I just did that bushing repair...it didnt really help me though...i'm gonna pull it all apart again and try putting a dab of grease on the bushing to stop the rattle....I'm not real sure that the bushing's the problem though...Make sure you have a pair of snap ring pliers or some extremely fine toothed needle nose pliers, it's miserable without them...

oh thanks for reply but i forgot to mention that i have obx short shifter in it already. My shifter just rattle and make noise that throw me off.

what was the key word for the old thread about this? i tried but got no luck.
