Did a search on the forums but didn't find the answer i was looking for. As my title states, i have a 2001 qx4 with the shifter indicator LEDs not working.

Should i check a specific fuse first?

If fuse is good, is it an easy fix?

If the fuse was bad, none of the other interior lighting like the climate control, cigarette lighter, etc. would be working either. Sounds like the bulb is simply bad. It's not terribly difficult to access. Just open the rear cupholder and pry on the rear (narrow end) of the wood trim and pull up. It should pop right off. Then just disconnect any electrical cables on it. From there (if I recall correctly) you should be able to access the bulb socket on the bottom of the shifter. Just twist and it'll come out. You may need to pull the shifter unit out a bit to get to it. If you do and can't ascertain how to remove it safely, just post back and I'll refresh myself!

You can replace the bulb with an LED instead in the interest of not having to do it again, or just mix up the colors  This thread should give you everything you need on sizing and/or selecting an LED replacement:
