My shifter has a LOT of slop in it... When it is in 3rd, I can move it over to where 1st and 5th should be. I've traced the problem down to the shifter bushings, but I haven't really been able to find out a lot of information about them.

My question is, where on the shifter are they? I've pulled the shifter and don't see anything that look like bushings. The guy at the Nissan dealership looked on his computer and couldn't find a bushing either. He said the only part that wears is called a bush socket and is a yellow piece of plastic the shifter sits in. So... what can you guys tell me about these bushings?

the only parts that would wear would be the 2 plastic socket halfs that hold the shifter in, and the little plastic end on the shifter where it moves parts in the transmission.

the last bushing poot mentioned is the bush socket the nissan part guy told you about. when you pull your shifter out of the trans if it is a round crome ball on the end in the trans your bushing has desintagrated. the new one pushes on over the ball and must be square with the hole inside the trans when you reinsert it or you'll knock it off or worse break it. it takes a bit of force to push the bushing socket over the ball. make sure none of the old one is left inside the shift lever in the trans

Hey guys, sorry to bring this thread back from the dead but I had been meaning to say something about it.

I replaced the bush socket and the shifter is still moving back and forth while in gear. And there is a bushing right above the second, bigger ball, I just never noticed it before... yeah. It didn't look too worn out either so I dunno. Is there supposed to be one below it, but above the other ball on the end of the shifter?

I need a little more info here guys.

Ugh.

Anybody else able to confirm this? Has this happened to anybody else?

Wow, I feel dumb... I looked at a picture from Zilvia and I see the bushing on the end of the shifter that you guys were talking about. Ok, off to the dealer to go get it...
