Alright, so since i bought my s13 in July, the shifter has had ridiculous amounts of play in it. Yesterday i went and picked up a new short shifter for pretty cheap. I heard bad things about the plastic bushing thing on the end of short shifters, so i figured i would just use the metal one from the stock shifter. Well i took the old shifter off today and it looked like this:

So i was like wtf?!

Then i looked inside where it was mounted before and saw this:

And the old shifter on the right, the new one on the left.Image

Heres my question: Is that thing supposed to be there in the transmission, or is that the bushing from the old shifter and i need to take it out? Thanks

That bushing is supposed to slide out. Never saw one stuck in the transmission before.

You should smack it out with a hammer. :P

Mine's been stuck in there multiple times. Some combination of flathead screw drivers should be able to pull it out. You just force the screwdriver against the side of the bushing and slide it out.

You should order a new bushing, the only reason they fall off is because they get loose with age.

It doesn't look like a shortshifter, if anything maybe a Nismo solid shifter since it looks close to stock.

I had a shortshifter and got tired of it's noises and rebuilt my stock shifter, super happy with that decision.
