Yeah it's all about your powerband, the only really good way to do it is to get a dyno of your car and work out the shift points, then just take it to the track and test them out to see if it needs any fine tuning. I usually shift like, 6500, 6100, 5800, 5600. Though I don't race so I've never cared to find out which way is faster on the track.
