shift lock ?

very often, lately, the "shift lock" switch is required to release the shifter form Park

94 with 80,000 miles.

this is a fairly new issue with the car

is there a fix ?

Mine does the same thing. It's annoying. I think there's a fix, but I haven't bothered to do it as it's not worth the trouble

Mine does the same thing too... I havent ever fixed it, I view it as an extra security system. Even if the burglar could get in the car, and get it started, chances are they wouldnt be able to get it in gear...

Check your brake switch adjustment & go from there.

that is what it was on my car behind the brake pedal shaft. 10 minute job $15 part
