I have a 2008 Nissan Rogue with 96,000 miles on it. Last week I was having problems getting the gear shift out of the Park position. I noticed that there was a Shift Lock slot next to the gear shift. I looked in the owner's manual which said that this problem may occur if the battery is low or discharged. I then followed the owner's manual steps to get the vehicle out of the Park position and into Neutral by inserting a screw driver into the Shift Lock slot. I then went to AutoZone and had the battery tested. The battery was indeed low and tested at 475 amps, but the battery was supposed to have 550 amps. The next day I went to Nissan service and had the issue checked out. I was told that the Rogue needed a new shift assembly at a cost of $650 ($375 parts and $275 labor). I asked if the problem could be caused by a low battery and was told that it could not. I decided not to get the work done and wanted to shop around on the internet for the shift assembly part. Since the battery was low and still good, I decided to go back to AutoZone and buy a battery charger. I charged the Rogue overnight and the next day I didn't have any problems with the shift lock issue. I then went back to AutoZone to have the battery retested. The battery tested at 541 amps. It has been over a week now after I recharged the battery and I haven't had the shift lock problem again. Any thoughts on this? Could it have been the battery causing the problem even though Nissan said that it wasn't?
