I'm hoping I can get some help here. I've got a '89 240SX (auto). When I start the car, I can push my shift button in to shift into gear. If I turn the car off, however, I can easily depress the button and start the car in neutral then I can shift the car into any gear I please (except "park" of course, if I get it into park, it won't disengage again. I've also lost my brake lights. I've checked the brake light fuse and the Shift lock fuse, both are not blown. Any ideas?? Thanks in advance with any help you can give.

there's a green box up in the top of the driver foot well (it occupies the same space as the clutch would). It's the shift lock control unit. Unplug and replug it and see if that helps. If that doesn't, you might need to replace it since the fuse isn't blown out.

As for the brake lights, I really can't tell you what's up with that.

There is also a little plastic peice on your break pedal that touches a switch under your dash, your switch could be bad of the plastic peice could be broken. May wanna check that out too.Total for both parts from a nissan dealer around Baton Rogue was under 10.00.
