I have a 2004 Nissan Pathfinder SE 4WD that will not shift out of park without using an allen wrench to manually override the shift lock. I have research this problem online and took the following corrective actions:
1. New Battery
2. Checked all fuses behind the storage box
3. Replaced the Shift Lock Solenoid Assembly
4. Checked all brake lights - no bulbs burned out
5. Verified Brake lights turn on when pedal is depressed (Brake light switch appears to be working)
6. Checked cruise control - works fine and turns off when brake is applied (ASCD cancel switch appears to be working)
I should also mention there is no click when I depress the brake pedal and the shifter will not come out of park. Periodically I get a click and the shift lock disengages and works as it should.
Chiltons suggests the ASCD Cancel (Cruise control) switch on the brake pedal has a dual function and is involved in the shift lock system, but others reference the Brake Light Switch as needing to be replaced. With both the cruise functioning normally and the brake lights working normally I do not think these switches are failing.
Can any of you assist me with this issue?
Thank you
