09 Versa 1.8L sedan automatic transmission.

You have to poke the little shifter lock, right rear of the shifter, to shift gears. Whats the fix?

The brake lights work.

I searched, but haven't come up with much on how to specifically diagnose the issue. I saw references to shifter lock solenoid and cable. And brake switch. Nothing about actually diagnosing or fixing the problem so far.
