I have a 2006 Infiniti M35X

Put the car into park one day and heard a big CLACK. Then the shifter went loose and wouldn't engage in any gear.

There is no Infiniti dealer nearby so I had it towed to the local Nissan dealer. The part that is needed is a shift lever, underneath the actual shifter. (At least that is the name I was given. I am not even sure that is the proper part name.) Some rod with a fork shape on one end and some clips. That is the only name I know. I would appreciate any proper terminology or links to diagrams if those are available. The transmission itself is OK according to the Nissan dealer and all I need is that little part under the shifter.

Well, in true Infiniti parts, the part is backordered from Japan and no one knows when it will, if at all, arrive.

Is there any other work around for this part? How many other years/models would this same part be used for? Or an off market piece, whilst waiting for the OEM?

My only other option is to call all the junkyards I can all over Canada and the USA if needed. I am located in Canada.

I would appreciate any information.

Thank you!

I'm not saying I distrust deslerships... but could you check under the vehicle to verify that the shifter rods/linkages are still connected?
These would be hurting from the center console area down to the left side of the transmission. Jack your car up and check because sometimes it's the simple things they get you.

Oh, on compatibility, parts from an m45 of the same era might fit.

Pretty sure there is no shifter rods/linkages. The FSM shows the shifter going to a series of electronic switches, and I've seen the same when pulling off all of the console covers. I haven't been able to find the part number in about 30 minutes of searching (started by looking at part diagrams on infinitipartsusa, where it isn't in the console or transmission diagrams amongst others), but I did find a reference to the "selector lever" in the FSM.

This is what I found in the FSM, Automatic Transmission Section (AT, on pages AT-224 through AT-227):

Sorry no part numbers listed, but at least parts are named. Anything look familiar?

Clearly there is some linkage. I must have been misguided by the number of electrical connections to the shifter and their designations elsewhere in the FSM. Unfortunately, this makes things even more complicated for the OP since a dealer looked at and diagnosed it.

Thanks for the pics Craig.
Dustin, that's why I was saying it might be worth double-checking. It might be something so simple that the dealership is exaggerating...or indeed something really major happened
