I have read the forums and only found 1 reference in 2004. The button on the shift lever sticks intermittingly. It was mentioned there was a solidnoid and you should hear it click when brake pedal is depressed. How do you get it all out after console cover has been removed and is this the cause of the problem?

so does it not click sometimes? If thats the case I might check the connections, not very common for parts like that to fail on Qs.

we have taken console off and cleaned all cnx there is a lever that you can watch move toward the shifter after the click occurs. Is this solonoid in the steering column that controls that little lever or it that a solonoid itself? It will work for awhile and then go back to doing the same thing. When it occurs you do not hear the click, also seems to do it more when cold. After warming car most of time , depress break, hear solonoid and shift ok. Help!!!!

Have you tried taking out the actual solenoid and cleaning it? Could be just it sticks.. personally I would try and find a used shifter from a wrecked Q and make everything better that way.

It shouldnt be a big deal to find a used shifter thing.

The solenoid is in the shifter area... Theres nothing in the steering column that pertains to that?

The only thing that makes the shift lock work is the brake lamp switch, so if your brake lights dont work or your cruise control, then that would explain that..
