I assume you have an auto. Are you referring to the manual shift mode? There is little you can do about that. It's still an automatic and it's not easy getting such a system to respond as quickly as a manual. BMW's SMG trannies are probably the best compromise in ths regard as they use manual transmissions with electronic controls to act like an automatic. Unfortunately, they are only in the M cars and not exactly cheap to get into. BMW's manual shift mode auto is pretty slow too. Audi/VW's DSG sounds promosing, but I've never experienced that for myself.

I have an 04 coupe with auto and I found that if I hit my gears at the right time there is not a lot of delay. Also I found exactly how far up to push my shifter to change gears. I don't have to go all the way which does cause a delay. I have to push it forward about 1/4 of an inch and it will change gears.

It takes a little playing around with like yzarcur said. I've got mine down so that I know when to shift it taking lag into consideration. There isn't much otherwise that will help you out with the auto. There is debate as to whether or not installing a ground wire kit helps or not. It may just be placebo effect, hard to tell.

I have installed a ground wire kit and I have to say that it isn't a placebo effect. The shifts via the autostick are pretty near instaneous now. I, too, didn't believe that they would make a difference before installing them but they made a believer out of me. I don't know how other kits work but Gordgee's Grounding Gear is the one I purchased.

I installed the grouding kit as well and noticed a slight difference, but it wasn't huge. It just felt smoother I guess more than anything. There is still lag present though.

Trying resetting your ECU. Alot of G owners swear they notice a difference, especially on the autos.
