i want to replace the stock shift knob on my 92 240sx but im not sure if it just screws off or what. if it does it is extremely hard to turn. but i dont wanna try too hard to turn it until im sure it just unscrews so i dont break anything. do you know?

I tried to unscrew mine, its wasnt that bad. I just left it a little bit loose so that in the future if a replace my shift knob it'll be easy. Turn it counter clockwise.

Just unscrew, its just bonded to the shifter with some paste.

Twist harder if its not moving, if you've exhausted yourself, wrap shifter in a towel and use a pair of big grip pliers.

i had to use channel locks to get mine off. i thought i was going to break the shift arm off. those things are on there good. is your new knob weighted? i switched knobs and i hated the new one. it was too light and it would grind in 3rd and 5th gear. the stock knob is weighted so you dont feel it as much.

That's odd - all I do is hold the base firmly, and twist at the top. That really sounded bad. So I'm just going to stop.

welcome to the forums. just get a B&M, you'll thank me later, Im getting mine in on friday, but yea, just twist, and dont worry, you can really break a shifter by removing a knob with some force

tahst where the crasftman rubber belt pliers come in. i like the feel of the weighted stock knobs, the only knob i would consider is the leather nismo one but im not sure if its weighted or not.

It's not. I like mine just fine, but I've heard of lots of people who don't...

Do what i did. Take the shifter out totaly and remove the top part. There are 2 metel parts to a stock shifter the lower half and the upper half and they are seprated by rubber. I took this top half off and wire wheeled the rubber off. Instant CHEAP short shifter. As for a knob, go to the local golf course, find a golfer, steal one of his GOLF balls, drill a hole in it and pound it on....

Yea i know its nothing on how to remove the stock shifter but im bored and wanted to type someting.......
