Shift Knob scratches?

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I just noticed a few scratches on the brushed stainless steel plate on top of the shift knob today. They were likely there when I bought the car a month ago especially since I don't have rings on my fingers that would have caused it. I wonder if Infiniti would replace it for me? How do all your knobs look... pretty scratched up or still prestine? Take a look and report back.

Is there anything that could be done to remove the scratches other than having it replaced? They agreed to take care of the scratches on my rims that I noticed shortly after taking possession. I'm going to at least try on this too.

Mine has been replaced TWICE due to the dealer scratching it while my EX was in for service. (I don't wear rings or anything on my right hand and nobody else had driven my car.) The second time, they documented on the work order "customer complains shift knob loose". I'm sure that was done so they could claim the part/service under warranty.

The last time I took it in for service, I was tempted to put a sport sock over it bound with an elastic but instead, I had the service advisor verify the shift knob was pristine and write that on the work order. I subsequently got the car back with no damage.

Anyway, all that to say that yes, it's prone to scratching and be careful because by now, Infiniti corporate might be clamping down on the rash of shift knobs being replaced under warranty.
