I got a new nismo shift nob in yesterday for my Z and it was a little more complicated to install than I had figured it would be. It asks for 2 pieces of radiator hose to grip and protect my nob and the rod that leads to the transmission from slipping or turning. My question is what else could i use since i like any other normal person, dont keep spare radiator hose laying around my garage?

Thanks in advance for any help

Yeah thats what i figured but i was wondering if there was something else i might be more likely to have laying around the garage that anyone knows would work just as good.

I was on the same boat as you two months ago.

Tools you need:Vice GripShop towelStrap Wrench (looks like a rubber belt with a handle)

Pop up the shift column, wrap the shifter with a towel, adjust the vice grip so that it is a snug grip on the shifter, take the strap wrench and wrap it around the shift knob counter clockwise and turn slowly. The thread lock will slowly tear as you turn. You might need to grease your elbows a bit for this. Nissan locked up the OEM shift knob pretty good on the 350z.

Hope this helps. It really is easier than it sounds, you just need the right tools

yeah thats pretty much it!.... i had no problem with the rod spinning, i just grabbed the knob with some channel locks and cranked her off there. I started out using a towel and said eff that i'm throwing this knob away anyway. But its on there pretty good, might need some steroids!

yeah i gave up.... its a pic of a transparent purple shift knob... really alternative lifestyle....

on a real note, the Nismo shift knobs are pretty sweet. I just can't bring myself to spend $65-$100 on a shift knob right now. Mine is just an aluminum ball that came with my pro-1 short shifter.... doesn't look bad, but i like the look of the nismo shifters.

I have my eyes set on one of these. I really like the nismo titanium one also.
