I'm working on my rb30 240sx right now shes got the stock 5spd rb20 tranny which isnt going to last. I'm wondering if rather than going with a 300zx 5spd when it blows up, if i should go with an auto 300zx tranny. Id only go with the auto if theres anyone out there that makes a shift kit for it. I tried searching in google but didnt come up with much.

Anyone know?

if i remember correctly the auto trans is the same as the KA. I read that somewhere when researching the idea of going auto. i would recomend going with say a ford C4 auto. awesome trans, takes a beating and plently of aftermarket support

yes we ran a C4 with a transbrake and 5500 stall in our old race car which had a 1.8L 3tc toyota motor in a 69 corolla. best 60 was 1.34 and ran 9.64@134.
just need to make a adapter plate and take car of the flexplate/flywheel and stall and your set

Awesome.

Yeah it seems the aussies made an adapter to the RB bell housing. Must be the easier route. The tranny looks relatively compact too. I'm getting excited!!

Now, about the flex plate... Would that have to be custom? I'm not up on my autos...

yea it would have to be custom and a good race/trans shop can do it for you and a custom stall to fit within the bell housing as well.
that paired up with a trans brake and it will leave out the hole great!
depending on the size of the turbo or th etorque the motor puts out some have to use NOS to spool the turbo if your stall is high.

We had a small 1.8L and didnt put out much torque and had a Precision t63 and had to use a 75 shot that we kiss sprayed to spool it up to 5500. the motor alone could only get it to rev up to 2k when on the transbrake

Hahaha.

Wow. Sounds like that engine could take a beating!

Yeah I had a brand new HX35 7blade but f*** nissans ninja oil restrictors killed it :( . So i upgraded (downgraded?) to a Precision 5557 billet .82a/r rear. I hope its big enough! Word is its the size of a GT3071. Should be pretty torquey.

Can't i spool the turbo just by holding down the brake and building it up just with the stall? I understand a transbrake has it in rev/1st at the same time. But either way you'd be putting load on the engine thus spooling the turbo no?

no need to hold the brake with the transbrake engaged. but some motors just cant load up a high shall fast enough without the help of a lil nos.

After buying this kit all you would need is a custom converter...And im sure they could take care of that for ya. Ill be doing this in the future ; )
