I did a search and couldn't find anything on this but was wondering if anyone knows if the console "buttons" for the gears are supposed to light up or not? If they are supposed to be backlit what bulb do I need and how do I access it to replace the one that doesn't work now?Thanx!

I don't think they're supposed to light up. At least, my don't.I think that's what the gear indicator in the dash is for.

You mean the indicators next to the shifter? I'm about 90% they should be backlit when your headlamps are on, but I could be wrong.

You mean the P-R-N-D-2-1 in the following picture, right?

EDIT: After looking at the FSM, it shows that the letters P-R-N-D-2-1 should be backlit when you have the parking lamps or headlamps on.

Yepper those are the ones! If they don't light I was thinking they would look pretty sweet with a super bright white led behind them, but like I said they never did light since I got the car?

Well it should definitely be lit. The bulb that goes in there is a 194 I believe (don't quote me on that). That bulb is probably the single most difficult bulb to replace in the vehicle since you have to partially dismantle the center console and the shifter trim to change it. Most likely it burnt out with the previous owner and it was just too much of a hassle to replace.

The FSM doesn't list the bulb, but when I replaced my bulb I'm pretty sure it was the same bulb that goes in the center high-mounted stop light (which is 194 if I recall correctly).

It's not as hard as it looks. The console just pops out and the only part that is removed is the stuff covered in wood grain, the shifter and brushed aluminum stuff stays in place along with the covered dual cup holder.

Get a 168/194 lamp but make sure it doesn't exceed the 194 size, anything bigger will not fit. The same goes for the High Mount Stop Light/3rd Brake Light. This one worked for me WLED-xHP5

Open the oversized cup holder and just lift up. After it's dislodged rotate it 90* so the shift knob fits through it. The lamp is located in the rear driver's side of the shifter console and is at a weird angle. It took me a little while to find and takes some force to twist it out. Remember LED's are polarized and and if it doesn't light up twist it 180*.

Just an update on this and the other thread, with the console out already all you have to do is grasp the rear of the shift panel. (the brushed aluminium) and wiggle up and down gently and it will dislodge alowing you to lift and move forward and down to have full access to the bulb at the rear drivers side of the panel. When you replace the shifter panel, make sure to put the front end down in first there are two tangs that must be placed in first then just press down on the middle rear until it seats in and doesn't move.

I have a 2000 Nissan Pathfinder
My Centre Console light (automatic Transmission shift light) has gone out
I took the console apart, but could not remove the whole thing because the 4x4 shifter is part of the console and the leather covering on the 4x4 shifter is attached to both the console and the 4x4 shifter.
From what I could see under the console where the automatic shifter is, I could not locate the console light.
Could someone tell me where the light is located? Pictures or a diagram would be very helpful, as well as instructions on how to get to it, since I cannot remove the whole console because of the 4x4 shifter.

Thank you in advance.

P.S. I have seen YouTube videos of other Nissan vehicles, Sentra, Altima, Frontier, Titan...but none of these provide any clues to where I can find the light on my vehicle.

I think this is it

No specific tips on getting to it since mine isn't a similar year, but I imagine you're able to feel under that side and get to it like that. It should be a twist and pull to extract the socket.
