I just bought a 00 QX4 today and noticed that the shift indicator lights in the cluster and actual shifter or shifter base, whatever you want to call it does not light up. I know the shift indicator lights in the cluster SHOULD light up, right? Maybe the bulbs are burnt? Maybe a fuse? If anyone could help me out, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

They should light up. My floor shifter didnt have a functioning light for as long as I can remember then I saw something about it on here and was like :orly: So I went and got a bulb and it worked again. I cant say that I like it that much because the whole base of the shifted gets pretty hot when the light is on for awhile but whatever. Search the forum for the thread and there should be pics.

You can replace the incandescent bulb with an LED and it won't get hot anymore. Plus you'll never have to change the bulb again most likely, since LEDs last much longer.

Yea. The cover itself snaps in and out, no screws. Just be careful taking off the shift indicator cover. The long, clear plastic indicator piece is fragile, if you twist it the wrong way the black material that outlines the letters will break and you'll see the bulb color come through- where you dont want it to come through. I'm actually looking for a new shift indicator cover myself because of this reason.

You guys know where we can get the OEM bulb? The bulbs tip is covered with a piece of rubber that is blue in color. OR, where can we find an LED bulb? I don't have the cars manual, whats the v/w on the indicator bulb and the ash tray bulb?

Thanks,
Vannak

I wouldn't know where to get an OEM bulb.

I replaced the shifter bulb with this LED (WLED-CW5) and results are bright and even. No complaints.

I replaced the ashtray bulb with a 74-W LED. Not the brightest, but sufficient. If you want night pictures of either just ask.
