So after a year of trying all different types of gas, I have come to the conclusion that Shell & Sunoco are the 2 best gas stations to use for the 1st gen Q45. I get the best gas mileage using those 2 and the car just seems more responsive and smooth than it does with anything else.

Here's what else I've tried:

Exxon
Mobil
Hess
BP
Gulf
Citgo

I can say that Hess is the absolute worst gas out there. I swear they're using more than 10% ethanol in their formulation. I remember filling up with Hess a few months back and having all these bucking issues as a result. Next fill up was Sunoco and no problems whatsoever.

I have heard Chevron is also one of the best, but we don't have any Chevron stations here in the tri-state area. Has anyone else tried different types of gas on their Q and noticed similar results?

All of the "Top Tier" brands seem to be pretty good, unless you buy from a station that doesn't maintain its tanks, filters, etc.

In my area, the Chevron stations seem to be the best-maintained, and the Q seems to like their gas.

I try to avoid filling up while a tanker truck is refilling the station tanks - Refilling them stirs up all the water, dirt and other crap that normally settles out, resulting in more of it being pumped into customer's vehicles.

Incidentally, here's a LINK that discusses just about everything you could possibly want to know about gas station fuel quality - and then some!

I agree HESS is complete garbage, learned the hard way, fill up in 1999 (pre-ethanol??) resulted in plugged cats - i paid cash (no receipt) so i was $hit outta luck, lesson learned, I always paid with crdit card since. I have never used hess since, even thou i thot it was my bad luck - not even for my hoopty truck, :gotme

Back in the day, Amoco had the best gas for any car... now it's bought by BP and everything else is 10% ethanol so it's just a crapshoot no matter what you pick
