Yep, that's a good weight for a TT driven in a warm to hot climate.

Ah crap, the code doesn't work anymore, but other codes may work. The rebate is still valid though, so it's like $17 a gallon now. Guess it was a 1 day thing or something.

No other codes work now, sorry dude, guess it was a glitch. If you get their mailings you should be able to use the coupons there. If the guy says it's not for oil just hit him with a Image

Haha that never seems to work for me. No worries though, almost warm enough to buy the cheaper shell 15w40.

I'd like to report back on T6.
We just tried this on our track Miata (99', not boosted).
We fried 4 quarts down to ~2.2qt in a regular oil change cycle. It came out completely black and fried.
Typically, we lose less than 10% of the oil, and it comes out looking like it had been run for ~3k. It looked like 10k used oil.
We also HAVE to run full synthetic on this Miata, as it will cook off anything else with the hard driving.

This is surprising. T6 sounds like great oil after doing the research, but I feel like I should pass on my findings. 5w-40 is absolutely perfect for the Z32.
I am probably one of the only guys to have a bad experience with it so far. If I find this thread again later, I will report back after running 4qt of another brand to see if the issue was only with the T6.

Corey I HIGHLY suggest you get a used oil analysis. How did you determine the amount of oil used in the OCI?

I think I'm running 10W-40 in my NA? Anything wrong with Mobil 1 full synthetic?

Agreed, my TT really didn't sound right with Mobil1 and purrs with T6.
BUT, I am concerned with Corey's post and experience with T6 in his track Miata and will be paying close attention to his later reports...something I can't put a finger on has had me wondering/worrying about internal deposits with the T6, and cooking off oil which would surely leave a residue definitely doesn't argue against that thinking.

Just switched from lubro moly to T6 in my mr2 which loves to burn oil so I will see if it's worse now.

I used to run T6 in my Subbie (which loved to eat oil) Even running hard at 3k mile intervals I burned nearly nothing so it's odd that a na miata would burn so much even on track duty.

That oil is long gone, I would have loved to send that one in for analysis.
The container for the T6 was still in the garage, so we could see ~3.5Qt went into the engine. Typical of what comes out on an average OCI.
We actually changed the oil for the Miata early after hearing a tick and noting an abnormal oil level. We were burning it off VERY fast. Made the call and changed back to RP HPS
The level of oil was checked simply by a milk\oil carton estimation. A touch over half full = slightly over 2qt. Unbelievably low, and especially considering below average racing that cycle.
We have only really had issues with dinosaur juice in the past. There are zero oil leaks, and the valve covers and oil pan are spotless.

Recently, I've heard from another owner of a Mazda, this time a Mazda 3.
First try at T6, and they had the same exact issue. Average driving, massive oil loss from burning off.
I am very surprised because the composition of T6 doesn't point to any issues, and if anything, it should be better than most everything else on the shelf!
I say it's worth a shot in our Z's. I still have no idea how we cooked off. Just keep an eye on your oil level to see if it holds up for you.

I have read under high stress that the t6 has a low shear stability which if you hit that point it breaks down pretty quick. Not sure i would want to run it on the track though i would think it would still hold up fine for a day regardless.

I used to change the oil before every track session/dyno session regardless. Cheap insurance.

Rotella T6 on sale at Amazon.com for $18.36 with free shipping. Go to coupons, search Automotive and you'll see the Rotella one. Then you go to this page for the $5 rebate from Shell, so $13.36 for a gallon of Rotella.

Shell Rotella T6 gallon on Amazon

$5 rebate per gallon.

The deal is not better with the case of 3 and the subscribe and save, because the rebate is limited to 2 per household.

Not quite $8.99, but it's still a great deal
