It's still gas. lol

I've been using V-power for quite some time, as many others from the G, Z, and Altima forum have because of the cleaning power they contain. The new nitrogen enriched fuels from Shell are like the 'lite' version of V-power - they contain more cleaning agents than normal fuels.

another marketing gimmick. Any of your major gas marketers have enough fuel additives for proper cleaning. Here is a quote from their media release.

Shell scientists also made head-to-head comparisons with lower quality gasolines, whereby engines simultaneously ran on different types of gasoline. The results of these comparisons proved that the Shell Nitrogen Enriched Gasolines are more effective than lower-quality gasolines in protecting against the build-up of harmful engine gunk, Shell said in a statement.

So, what is this lower quality gas they refer too? Unlikely to be any of their main competitors for sure. Likely some unbranded stuff sold at some grocery store somewhere.

My guess is the "new" nitrogen-enriched formula is just the old formula with increased amine content. I haven't been able to find any MSDS for the new formula to find out for sure. Amines are nitrogen-bonded compounds that are used in the best fuel detergent additives (like Techron and BG's old 44K formulation). Shell's old V-power contained smaller quantities of amines than Techron, though, so it would make sense for Shell to crank up the count.

A marketing gimmick for sure. However, I don't agree with the second part. Quantity of detergent, for one thing, is the least important thing. The detergent's constituents are the real important thing. A lot of detergents are a joke. More of a crappy detergent is still crappy. Shell is great and Chevron is unbeatable. No reason to go anywhere else unless you're adding amines to your tank through additives (techron). One nice benefit of running gas containing amines is that it helps reduce CO2 emissions. So running a bottle of techron in your tank while testing for emissions can help. In fact those additives designed to help pass emissions tests contain similar additives to Techron and Shell's additive, PEA (polyether-amine) and naptha.

A few years ago we did a fuel test in my tech class to see if it made any difference. We used Costco gas, local mini mart gas, shell gas, and Chevron.

The Chevron techron made a huge difference difference in how well the car ran. Best milage, better emissions, smoother idle, and believed to be better power.

With Shell V-power we saw no improvement in the way the motor ran compared to the mini mart gas. there was nothing bad to report, but also nothing good.

Now costco gas did not live up to our expectations. The test vehicle got the worst milage with this fuel, the emissions were noticably worse, and the car felt sluggish. The milage was so bad compared to Chevron, that it actually costs more in the long run to buy Costco gas.

So in conclusion, Chevron Techron works, and it rocks! its the only fuel I put in my car now. Shell is fine, but so is the mini mart down the street, and it is recommended that you stay away from Costco gas.

Altho a lot of Versa owners continue to argue over all gas brands coming from basically 2 refiners, so there's little to no difference, your tests sound feasable.

I have found that in my own 2 to 3,000 mile road trips, Chevron gets me the best results.

I can tell in the first 10 miles from a fill up if my Versa SL with the CVT, hates the gas. It's more sluggish, rev's higher going up hills, and the mpg numbers are worse than usual.

My Nissan Dealer, on the other hand, won't use anything other than Shell gas for their mpg tests.

shell ftw!

In my area, the shell gasoline is significantly better than any other gas. I can definitely tell the difference in my 6cyl and 8cyl cars.
