A marketing gimmick for sure. However, I don't agree with the second part. Quantity of detergent, for one thing, is the least important thing. The detergent's constituents are the real important thing. A lot of detergents are a joke. More of a crappy detergent is still crappy. Shell is great and Chevron is unbeatable. No reason to go anywhere else unless you're adding amines to your tank through additives (techron). One nice benefit of running gas containing amines is that it helps reduce CO2 emissions. So running a bottle of techron in your tank while testing for emissions can help. In fact those additives designed to help pass emissions tests contain similar additives to Techron and Shell's additive, PEA (polyether-amine) and naptha.fjwagner wrote:another marketing gimmick. Any of your major gas marketers have enough fuel additives for proper cleaning. Here is a quote from their media release.
I like your posts.MinisterofDOOM wrote:My guess is the "new" nitrogen-enriched formula is just the old formula with increased amine content. I haven't been able to find any MSDS for the new formula to find out for sure. Amines are nitrogen-bonded compounds that are used in the best fuel detergent additives (like Techron and BG's old 44K formulation). Shell's old V-power contained smaller quantities of amines than Techron, though, so it would make sense for Shell to crank up the count.
