Just made it in from picking up the 240 from Jacksonville. Great drive home... super smooth. The gas mileage was a helluva lot better than I expected. I filled up just outside jacksonville, and drove it all the way home (396 miles from gas station) on a single tank. The low gas light wasn't even on. The car is off to a good start :) '97 240

It's about average gas mileage. Say you filled up 16 gallons even though the tank is 17 and you went 396 miles thats 24.76 mpg. Congrats on the new ride, and welcome to the wonderful world that is the Kouki.

Ahhh ok... So the gas mileage is about right then. I'm used to my 207 whp built NA '01 Neon R/T... Getting much more than 280 miles out of that car takes an act of god... It's s fun 280 miles though :) Today Imma go through it. There's a belt that needs replacing and I need to shop for new headlights and possibly get the S14 grill insert since I need a new one anyways. Thanks for the transmission info...

I just changed the headlights, straightned the bumper and had it detailed. Got rid of the squeeking sounds from the belts. Tomorrow the engine gets pressure washed. Trying to think of what else I want to do. New air filter is already in it and I'm also doing the plugs tomorrow as well. The car runs very well...

Try http://www.car-part.com/ .

You can probably find a nice low mileage transmission at a nearby junk yard.

Edit: Just out of curiousity, what does it take to get a NA Neon engine over 200hp at the wheels? Stock, it's a 2.0 liter engine that makes about 150hp at the crank, right?

About 12 grand. The compression has been raised to 12.5:1. Forged pistons and rods bored .020 over. I'm running a custom grind cam from crane. 273 degrees of duraction, .400 lift on exhaust .395 lift on the intake. Custom intake manifold and exhaust manifold. The head has been race ported. It has all of the usual bolt ons, UR udp, and cam gear (yeah it's a sohc ;)) along with a custom cold air intake. For engine management I'm running a custom AF/X race ecu and using the Perfect Power SMT-6 to do the fuel tuning. Redline is 8100. It has a nasty lope at idle and doesn't like running under 3k. Above that it's literally a monster. The car is also gutted with no ac or ps. It weighs 2337 lbs without me in it. I'm also shooting a 50 shot of nitrous through it for some "just in case" :) So right around 12k in the engine, drivetrain, and electronics... Worth it? Probably not. But I "currently" have the worlds most powerful single cam second gen neon. Plus it's driven over 70 miles a day.
