Great job! Is that a Diehard Platinum {aka Odyssey pc-1500} battery I see there off to the side?

FRAM - yeah I was mad. I assume it was just the cheapo they screwed in at the junkyard when they test ran the engine. Oil that came out of it was MINT beautiful amber, sooo....

Also, after 120k of Mobil 1 0w30 oil changes, and 4k intervals, and my engine exploding, I'm not as concerned about oil quality as I was before. I wasted a ton of money on that engine with those $70 oil changes.

That battery - wow - I love it, I've never loved Die Hard but that platinum battery is amazing. Left my headlights on 2 days after I got it overnight, and when I came out in the morning, started right up no problems.

A/C Compressor - it was shot anyway. My A/C hasn't worked in two years, the compressor is seized. I'm considering:

a) Replace with crappy Napa part - $300
b) Buy pulley and clutch assy from OEM - $315.

I prefer #2 for quality, but after 2 years of not working (lines intact no leaks), I think my compressor may be shot in other ways. Might just replace it with a cheapo.

Ordering parts this week, engine back in next week. This was much easier than I though.

Got the engine in yesterday. Replaced valve covers and a few other things. Putting transmission in today for test start - will the car start or stay running with no exhaust on it, even for a few seconds?

Probably will sound RAW!!!

Anyway, here's a few recent pics. Sorry, I wanted to have a walkthrough for everyone, but couldn't secure a third man and it was raining hard all day on us yesterday when putting the motor in. Had to set up a tent for valve cover installation - I need a garage!

Bad Quality, sorry!

Don't run it too long or rev it too high w/o exhaust, you might suck a valve...

Congrats, and great work, man!

OK, might have an issue here.

We put the transmission in, torqued all 10 bolts, then realize - uh oh, we didn't necessarily line it up so we can install the 4 bolts securing the drive wheel to the torque converter. Turning the crankshaft rotates the drive wheel, but the holes aren't lined up to secure the two!

It got dark, damn. Do we need to pull this transmission off again, to rotate the torque converter to install them properly?

Also, the sensor we broke was the magnet sensor, $60 at IOS with overnight shipping. Replaced no more problems.

Ok good news, we didn't have to remove the transmission again. Inserted a chisel into an access location to freeze the TC while rotating the engine, lined up the flywheel and TC properly to secure 4 bolts.

Installing everything, swapped all parts from both engine, filled fluids.

we are ready to turn the key.

And....

And....

I can't find it. HAH.

All in all, 30 hours spent removing, installing, swapping parts, doing VC's on removed engine, a few other things.

Not bad for gravel and first time replacing a Q motor. Second time would be like 10 hours. Easy as pie.
