I've spent the last week without my Q45, driving around in a Volvo 850 Turbo service loaner. It was numb, boxy, and offered no feel for the road, brakes, or engine. And that darn sport suspension was rough as a skateboard. It handled well though, with well-controlled body roll and good grip.

Here's what it looks like in my driveway:http://www.efnetcars.com/gallery/rides/ahu

Picked up the Q tonight after getting the AC fixed... possibly the most responsive and quiet climate system I have ever used! Just put in a used compressor (was $80 for the part) and I was good to go! The fan in that Volvo roared as if I was going 50mph with the windows open.

This past week proves, you dont know what you've got til its gone.

Jesda,

My compressor on my J is making noise like it is about to go out but still is ice cold. I was going to wait until it totally quit colling before fixing because it isn't cheap but where did you get a used compressor for $80? I may go that route.

J-Owner,

Go to http://www.car-part.com

They are a GREAT resource for used parts. It's basically a searchable database of salvage yards across the nation. I think either Greg_atlanta or Heath gave me the link. I've ordered a few things off there and have been so far impressed.

That's good to hear. I have always had some concerns about buying a used compressor. The way junk yards store and work with stuff around here (smash and cut) I have visions of the compressor sitting unsealed in a mud puddle with spiders building a nest inside...

The J compressor belt has a tension pulley on it. Mine went and squeeled etc and I thought it was my compressor

Make sure that the compressor is really bad before spending the money on the compressor and install/charge. The area is the same and the only way to really differentiate the noise I had to put min up and get under with it running to hear the true location

Alot cheaper at $70 for the tensioner assembly that can be done on ramps with little tools

Thank for the info.

Hopefully that's what his problem is. It's nice when a 500-dollar repair becomes a 70-dollar one. :)

Thanks for the info guys. I am taking it in for an oil change on Monday and I will have them check that tensioner.

You may have saved me a lot of money Juiceman. If that is the problem then I owe you one. I will keep you posted.

I got my compressor at Whitey's Imports in Spokane, WA. You can look them up at switchboard.com. At first they wanted $120 but the compressor they showed me had a bad clutch. So the clutch was swapped and the used compressor was put in. All is swell. Nice part is, I got three cans of R12 for free.

It takes some special tool or device to remove that darn thing. The compressor was taken to a shop to do the clutch swap.
