I fired up the CA for the first time today. At first it wouldn't idle for **** and it smoked like a mother but we found some vaccum lines i didn't even connect and that fixed the idle. My turbo put out some smoke at first and even spit some oil but now it appears to be running fine w/o oil burning off...could it just have had some old oil inside it for some reason? Also the heatshield over the exhaust manifold smoked very badly at first and it still smokes now but not as bad...i got under the car and took a look at the turbo but i really couldn't see any smoke coming from down there. Could that just be old caked on oil burning off?? And the last question...my boost gauge is reading vaccum at idle and even when it should be under full boost. I tried my best to get it to read boost and the best i could do was just barely over the 0 mark on the gauge. Any ideas on those 3 questions guys?

Have you checked the wastegate, it could be hooked up the wrong way so the actuator holds it open.

As for the smoke its probably just the grease/oil off of your hands from the installation, it should stop.

doogz, are you trying to build boost on the gauge, while just reving the car up? cause it wont build much over 1psi unless under load! also there are only really like 3-4 vacum lines you need hooked up.. ill show you them when i put up some more pictures

Thanks guys. Hey Jon, you gonna stop by this weekend and check out the car? I'd still like to buy your stock turbo and those PS lines if you do and this KA motor has your name on it :)

That's cool. I think all i'll need is just the PS lines and the turbo. Is there any way you can ship those PS lines out on monday or tuesday though, because i've got an autox next sunday and it'd be nice to have PS :) If you come down next sunday you are more than welcome to drive to St. Louis with us and show those other autox'ers what a CA powered 240 can do!

Where in Illinois are you from? I'm also in the process of doing the ca18det swap. Well, first I have to wait for it to come in :) Coming from knowing/working on Hondas, I'm almost a total newb when it comes to Nissans. Anyway, maybe we could meet up sometime and you can explain to me the process and/or hardships involved when you did the swap and things I should/should not do to make it easier? Sorry for all the questions/request. I tried PMing and emailing you but you don't allow members to do either.
