Turned the key today for the first time with the new engine on it.

Whoa....not only did it turn right away, which I knew it would, it sounded AWESOME with only manifolds on it! Obviously I just let it run for 30 seconds to ensure it was OK and killed it....new exhaust coming next week from sunrise exhaust in Canada, I'll post some pics...$550 shipped, two cats on OEM pipes with OEM flanges, all hardware, not bad....

Man, I can't wait to drive it again. This 4 cyl Audi A4 is KILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLING ME

Sweet Congrats. I was without my q last week due to a flat tire and it was painful. :)

Way to go, buddy! We're all very proud, and are excited to get pics/video of the first test-drive!

Here's what was done:

1) All fluids in vehicle changed
2) Engine replaced
- new belts, and new bearings pressed into all pulleys
- valve cover gaskets
- TB Cleaning
- DIDN'T move the injectors from my engine (new Dwerks) to the new one - I figured it was already running OK (only 85k, mine was mint at 85k). I'll save them for later, when the KS's fail at 130k.

3) New exhaust, H pipe down from a junkyard with 85k on it, and new front sections and cats here:

I'm wary but excited about the pipes.

I'll have some stuff up soon fer y'all. Wish I could have snapped pics for walkthrough but was an intense and rainy process for 1.5 men.

This whole car just shaved off 100k miles. Love it!

/end engine install

I was at the market today and I saw a white 1997-2001 (by what the front of the car looked like) hit a carriage to push it up the curb so he could park. Anyways I thought of you Jack. :)

A word to the wise, pressure test your Deatschwerks rails before you reinstall them.

Good job. New motor mounts too, I presume?

of course Brian :)

Good advice, I'll do that. I figure I get at least a year on this engine/injectors before I am once AGAIN in the KS/Injector/Coil playground. Now I have 8 extra coils though!

Ok, so we got the exhaust in today. I'll post up some pics I took tomorrow of them before I put them on.

I was unhappy to see the TRAC and SLIP lights illuminated. Also this brought a bunch of codes:

p0330 - KS, B2
p0325 - KS, B1
p0335 - CPS/CIRCUIT (OBD)
p1105 - MAP/BAR SW SOL/CIR
p1120 - TP SEN2/CIRCUIT
p1400 - EGRC SOLENOID/V

I think most of these codes are coming from the TRAC and slip lights being on. The battery registered 14.3v at idle. I have yet to test using Tech's advice of switching the meter to AC, swapping poles on the terminals, and looking for less than ~ <100mv.

I don't think all of those sensors are bad, or not connected properly. I suppose a little dielectric grease never hurt anyone, but my guess is TRAC lights on - anyone got any suggestions on where to start looking tomorrow morning?

Didn't disconnect any ABS sensors, or even tires. I'll have to take another look, that would explain TRAC and SLIP, but not the codes.

Several of those are on the same sub-harness - I'm going to have to meter around and see what's going on. Could be a vacuum line also, those sensors run on vacuum lines.

But DAMN...does this car feel good. Forgot how quiet it is with new exhaust, god I love this car      :) :) :) :) :)

Ok, so according to page BR-59 of the manual, to diagnose the reason for the TCS SLIP lights being on, I do the following:

1) Ground terminal 9 of the data link connector (top right pin as viewed from driver's seat)
2) Turn key to ON
3) Wait 3 seconds and count the SLIP flash
4) Take this code and diagnose based on BR-61.

I can't get the SLIP light to flash. Very annoyed. It just behaves normally. I'm grounding to the battery.

Let us know! Check the sensors and wires first.

can't get far enough - using the above method, my SLIP light won't flash. I am grounding it correctly - I'm starting to suspect I'm missing a ground somewhere, causing all these problems.

I have a sneaking suspicion that it's a ground I missed.

Try undoing every ground you can see from the batt. and wire brush the contacts before reassembling. Ground connections are the cause of more headaches in my line of work than I care to remember!
