Hi Guys!
Say here is my problem: NOTE this car may have been in an accident before I owned it!!!
I have a 1993 Nissan 300zx with a few issues. This is my dream car and has served me well for many years until a few months ago.
I live in Wisconsin and plan to move to AZ, and I want to take this car. However, the thing that most worries me is a strong vibration through the whole car while I am driving down the road.
I have asked my mechanic and he kind of brushes me off like it’s no big deal. I think my car scares him; my car repairs always seem to be more complicated and complex then he first thinks.
The car only shakes when it is moving. The vibration gets worse just before the car s*** into the next higher gear. I have noticed that the shiatsu massage (the car shake/vibration) really kicks in when I keep the car at about 50 mph. I think this is because the transmission has not slipped into 5th gear yet. I could be wrong. Can this get worse with time?
If I accelerate slowly the vibration is worse. If I floor it the vibration is much less noticeable. I have to tell you that while driving down the road I have taken the car out of gear and stepped on the gas, the car runs smooth and vibration of any kind disappears. Put the car back in gear and give it gas, the vibration is back. I have noticed that any speed over 50 mph the vibration is very minimum, however if I accelerate slowly to get to any speed over 50 mph the car shakes (goes into shiatsu mode). If I floor it, once I reach my cruising speed it is smooth as silk, as long as I am going faster than 50 mph.
I think the culprit might be the drive shaft, or the balancer shaft (or something is out of balance). If it is one of these things what is wrong with the car and will it cost me a small fortune to fix?
