My 09's steering wheel shakes when I brake at high speeds. I've got about 43k miles on it.

Anyone know how long the stock tires should last on this?

That doesn't sound like tires to me. Get your brakes checked.

Get your rotors checked, you could have warped rotors.

^ agreed, warped rotors. Go with slotted rotors instead of OEM.

Oh great. 43k miles and I have warped rotors?

By high speed I'm talking about 70-80mph.

How much are rotors?

LOL what did you expect. I killed those breaks in 20kmi. Go out and buy some aftermarket pads and rotors you will NEVER feel that crappy brake fade with them. Ever since I had mine done its night and day compared to MattV's stock brakes. Drove it the other day and actually slowed down because the braking just doesn't feel safe.

BTW I have the Stillen Rotors and Pads :mike

Advice on the price would be helpful. I'm really just driving to work. It's the 2.5l so I think it'd be silly to spend extra $$ on this. If it was my Z or a 3.5 I'd definetly take the high road.

Brakes are warped like everyone is saying.

One of the reasons you get the cross drilled brakes is the longevity (pretty sure I spelled that wrong lol) cross drilled will last much longer than the stock ones, even if you dont drive crazy.
plus its always better to be able to stop quicker rather than slower.

Great....how much are these going to run me? I'm happy with the stock performance, save the shaking. I'll have to have someone install them too....

I had the shakes and it was because my wheels wernt balanced right and it shook around 70mpg. $58 did the trick for the lifetime deal with firestone. Shaking at speeds doesnt sound right for warped rotors.

Fellas key part of his diagnostic here is that he is getting shaking only when braking. If he is shaking at said speed while cruising then he has a tire out of balance. Maybe OP can confirm if the shake is when cruising, when braking, or both?

You dont necessarily have to replace the rotors either. You can have them resurfaced as long as they arent terribly warped. This shouldnt be done too often though, in fact it should only be done when changing brake pads for a fresh surface, but it will smooth out a minor warping.

Thats just your car coming down from its roid rage. They look real nice installed man, that black coating keeps the hats rust free for life.

could be as simple as rotating the tires. mine was doing that, then i rotated my tires, and it hasnt shaken since.

not a tire issue, and rotating wont do anything for him. rotating tires is to ensure the best longevity of the tires by making the wear even with all of them. I have the same issue the OP is having. need new pads anyway so im going to cut the rotors and put new better pads on, dont have money to buy new rotors and its unnessesary lol.

Yeah all you did here was move the improperly balanced tire from the front (shaking in the steering wheel, very noticeable) to the back (shaking in the cabin, less noticeable). Guaranteed that wheel is still off balance.

rotating tires should not be a solution to an improperly balanced tire. when a tire isn't balanced right it "hops" causing wear on some parts of the tire that is more then others. this creates an out of round tread wear so that even if you rebalance the tire after the damage is done you will not have a smooth ride, only solution is to buy a new tire. you can find out if its bad by running your hand along the tire tread, if it's bumpy, the tire is bad. if the steering wheel vibrates while driving, get the tires rebalanced at the place they were put on, should be free because they screwed up and it's their responsibility to correct it. hopping tires also cause indirect damage as well. premature wear of suspension, steering linkages, etc.

Its only $100-150 more than regular brakes its worth it for the stopping power. Its adding to your safety just because its a daily doesn't mean you wouldn't use them. Who knows these new brakes could save your life. :poke: :wavey: :mike

Pads and Rotors cost me about $450 around Christmas time when they were on sale.

I'd never buy pads and rotors from them unless i was desperate, the quality is not as nearly as good as the "brand" rotors and pads. most of their products probably come here from SE asia :ohno: ...
