shaking shifter make battery light come on

When i shake my shifter around on my 89 hatch the battery light comes on and of and i hear a clicking noise. I believe it might be a short or something. It also drains my battery if the light stays on. Any ideas what the problem is?

Have you pulled the center console to check for a short? i mean there aren't supposed to be any wires that would be affected by the shifter itself.

ill try to check there to see if its my stereo or something around there
