I saw an old thread talking about the car shaking during 1st and 2nd gear shifting, but I'm not sure this is the same problem. So i'll ask again, since its been over a year since this has been answered. When driving from a stop, or slowing down to turn- the rear of the car (93',s13,no lsd, worn suspension) shakes to a point where its noticable. This happens EXACTLY from 18-22mph. no other time does this shaking ever even give a hint its there. driving regular it happens and even trying to speed up to get past it, it still shakes. i havent tried to drive verrry slow through that speed but ill do it tomorrow. any ideas? thanks in advance-devin

transmission's fubared?

Is this an auto or stick?

I'm "guessing" this is an auto: checked your transmission fluid & transmission fluid level yet?

no its a stick, transmission rebuilt 30k ago at a nissan dealer.the "shake" range is actually a bit broader, maybe 10-22mph. i guess it could by a wide range of things seeing as i cant be terribly specific since i dont know exactly whats shaking... just seems very much thats its coming from the rear of the car. its not a violent shake either, just like turbulence during a certain speed, then smooth driving. as far as the fluids, i do think they need to be changed, since the car sat for a long time, only being driven maybe once a month or maybe twice before i bought it. thanks for the input

change your fluids just to be sure. but check your wheel bearings and ball joints back there for play; there should be none at all outside of the normal axes of movement. if not those then check for other little things like balanced tires, bad bushings. oh, and a good idea IMO would be to check the center driveshaft bearing and the differential bearings. ball bearings should have no play in any direction, and needle roller bearings should all be straight and spin freely and be smooth all the way around.

so basically, flip open your FSM and start checking out your rear end. it takes a little while, and you might find other maintenance items that need to be done as well, but in the end (no pun intended) you'll return your car to safe, tight operation (aside from Nissan's crap rear subframe bushings).
