I have a bad shake when braking. It's worse when going down hill. Less noticeable when in gear( manual).Have done a runout check on rotors. They are straight. I've checked all front end parts twice and can not find anything worn. There seems to be some play in the steering colum at the slip joint but I don't think that would cause the shake.Any ideas ? Car has 63K

Hi to all i am new to this forum

Any way sure you need a rotor disc to be machined, but if it is already machined then you should buy a new one, and new brake pads as well.

You could check by touching the rotor "when it is cold" and feel the bumps in it.

good luck.

When was the last time you bled the brakes?

how would this cause shaking?

sounds like a warped rotor or lose wheel nuts. but you would feel lose wheel nuts while driving, especially in corners.

Because it happened to me before with my truck. Since OP didn't point out it was brake shake or pedal shake, I am listing out what other options it could be.

It's a shake in the steering wheel.none in the brake pedal. I think the strut bearing is bad.don't know if this could be the problem.

My steering wheel shakes when braking at high speeds. I researched this and it is warped rotors. You can have them machined but they probably warp again. If you do, upgrade the brake pads to ceramic, because I think the dealer ones are cheap and probably the cause. They said it is not a safety issue if left, but more of an annoyance. I have not gotten around to changing mine yet, because it only happens during sudden braking @ highway speeds.

I've noticed when I brake hard my steering wheel shakes and the car does a bit too. Only under heavy braking though. And I have less than 700km's! wtf?

I'll probably wait till my first service though and tell the dealer when I go in, unless it gets worse.

I have the same problem. The steering wheel shakes when braking at high speeds, especially when going downhill. I have 27,000 miles which are mostly city. Is this problem something you should address right away, or is it just one of those annoying things (like the numerous dash rattle) that we should just deal with for awhile? Also, how would you really tell if they were warped? Would it be really noticeable when you feel them? I will be taking mine apart this weekend to check it out.

Mine did the same thing. Was definitely warped rotors. Swapped them out with some cheap ebay cross drilled & slotted rotors and ebc green pads. Definitely stops waaaaaaaaaaaay better than stock brakes when warm. When cold, it doesn't perform as nice as the stock brakes though. Brakes are louder than stock now though.

It doesn't matter whether your car has 5 miles or 100k miles, if you have a bad habit of spirited or aggressive driving and a lot of braking. You guys will warp your rotors. Even being stuck in traffic(a lot of stop and go) will warp your rotors especially on a hot day. I admit, mine was due to my bad habit of spirited driving.
