So I started up the Q for the first time in two months of being in a winter deep freeze.

It sounded a little funny, and like always after sitting for a while, it makes a rattling sound for 30-60 seconds. It sounded like someone rolled over a pile of twigs and it made a snapping crackling sound, but rhythmically like popcorn popping.

Anyway, after a good 3-4 minutes of idling it smoothed out, and I took her for a ride around the neighborhood.

Does anyone else get these funny sounds after a long hibernation? And I noticed the car was shaking/pulsating a bit too, as if someone was humping it. Whats that about?

Everything felt and sounded perfect, and the idle smoothed out eventually, but still the "shakes" were still there.

Too funny. Mine doesn't get a chance to cool down these days, much less hibernate, but if it's been sitting for a while, could it be flat spots on the tires?

Thankfully, mine doesn't make noise at start up like others have mentioned. I have had other OHC vehicles that did though, seems normal for some.

Flat spots I would say are true...

My car always feels the same wether its been sitting for a long time or for 5 mins..... I would assume youve got some rocker cover noise.. Normal id say since youve been using M1 and it could really drain out...

Not unusual after a week or two of hibernation on higher mileage Q45s... My guess is that it's either an injector or two freezing up, or valve seals drying out enough to hurt compression on a cylinder or two.

a noise like that is consistant with a timing chain rattle-this is common on older infiniti chain driven engines that i work on-over lonf periods of sitting the oil that is in the hydraulic tensioners bleeds off allowing the chains to have slack-when you start it up the tensioner needs a chance to pressureize and take the slack out of the chain-while this noise is happening do not rev the engine-it is best to start it and let it run for 2-3 seconds and then shut it off-do this repeatedly until the noise goes away-

if you drive the car or at least start it every day than this is the only occourance that you should have if it continues than you may have a tensioner going bad

I should have made it clear... the pulsating is at a standstill. Its gentle, but annoying.

Thanks guys!

I advise you to take it out on the nearest freeway & flog the crap out of it.

Keep us posted. ;)

Don't start it and shut it off. It may not start again (easily). It will foul out your plugs and really run like crap. I remember this being discussed along time ago. There is a term for that condition. Any one remember??? PS mine does the same thing after a month or two.
