I have a M45 its an 06.. 2nd owner and its in very great condition. I love it.
it has about 150,000 miles on it which I know (eeeh). and it was giving me some trouble about a month ago; my car's VDC, SLIP, & RAS lights would pop up and a few minutes after it would completely shut off or stall and pug the rest of the drive. Which then required me to change both camshaft sensors, they weren't the issue though, the solenoid on it, but after it kept stalling, and lastly i changed the crank shaft sensor and it seemed to be it.
( NOTE: there was a recall on the crank sensors back a few years, so I called tried to verify my VIN of course)

Also, I work at a dealership. Therefore the techs are kind enough to show me how to do the work or hook me up with labor pricing :dblthumb:
so as they install the parts into my car and we clear thte codes and take it for a spin for reassurance.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT comes on and long story short they told me it was both my cats (converters) because they were getting feed raw fuel from its previous problems and it would cause my car to eventually not start or work at all.
mind you not its kinda expensive to fix the cats and according to the techs a car like mines isnt worth investing in :frown: broke my heart. but they gave me 3 options..

1. Fix the cats and keep investing in to what other problems I might run into in the near future.
or
2. They offered to clear all codes from my car so I wouldn't get them back for another while and sell or trade in my car whichout telling them about my cats.
or
3. I can peirce or burn my cats out and my prob would be totally fixed, but my car wouldn't pass for emissions the next year...

Anyway, I just need some honest advice or maybe similar experiences and what you did?
Thanks guys/gals ;) xoxo, Promesa

Sell it to carmax if you don't want to fix it.

CarMax is going to screw you on the price because they know this stuff happens and are prepared to deal with it. If I was selling to a private party, disclosing it is the right thing to do. CarMax.... eh.

That burned up cat issue is not uncommon after those sensors fail. Happened to me. I had also run some seafoam through the intake prior to that all...thinking it was preventive maintenance. Coincidence that the sensors failed, & then burned up the cats? I dunno but it's been fine since.

If you like the car still, pony up for the parts and put on the new stuff. Tradin git in, finding a car you like, paying the difference, taking that risk for it to be a good car...might not be worth it given what you do know and do like about the one you have.

Sorry to hear about your troubles.
If you sell the car to CarMax, they will probably only pay you what they estimate they will get at auction, as they will not be keeping the car after they purchase it from you. From my experience with them (three purchases and one trade-in) they are very fair, but they are also a bit picky about what they keep on their sales lot. Don't listen to opinions from people who have no experience with CarMax. I have dealt with two different CarMax dealerships and they are among the most honest, courteous people and remain my first choice for finding a used car. The extended warranty (if the car qualifies) is better and covers more than the Infiniti extended warranty at a very reasonable price.
Having said that ...
If you choose not to fix your car, check the CarMax website for your area, find a car you want, then trade yours in and have the extended warranty added to the car you purchase. The warranty on my 2009 M35 goes for a total of 150,000 miles or 6 years from the day I bought it and cost just over $2300. You have NO copay at CarMax, or a $50 co-pay at the Infiniti dealer. It covers cats, ALL electronics, and just about anything that is not part of maintenance. My service guy at Infiniti says it beats their coverage and is among the best he has seen and they have no trouble with payment from them.

As a big believer in karma, I would advise against it. With regards to the private sale. Carmax offer will be so low that even if their car tester misses some issues, they will not loose money on it.

It sounds like you get a break on parts already but I got mine at IOS (Talk to Joe) and the parts were a LOT less even after shipping than the local dealer was asking.
Hell, you're already in AZ, so it should be an easy deal to make and you won't have to ship your cores back.
