well ive lurked on here for about a year now and never posted. now that my project is near completion, i figure i let you guys in on it. i had a build thread posted on another forum....here we go...

So I had originally planned to make a drag car out of my firebird but I told myself that I should try something different so I crushed it to make some room and bought this jem 4 or 5 months ago off of a kid I work with. Its a 1993 240sx SE automatic with about 160k on the chassis. The kid I got it from bought it along with a coupe as a parts car over a year ago while we were attending UTI. He got it with a blown motor and it was in a billion pieces. He had the block bored .020 over and decked, ported the head a bit, bolted a 5 speed to it. It was about to get towed from his apartment so he just dropped the motor and trans in, not even bolted in and had towed it to his aunts in South Jersey October of 2006 where it sat until march....ish. I picked it up for 800 bucks and went to town on it.

So I got it with just a long block and 5 speed under the hood, and a ton of parts inside. The wiring harness also fell down from the engine bay while it was being towed and got F'd up too. ive only been able to play with it on weekends so its taking longer than I'd like to get it going.

I sorted out what I needed and just canned the rest of it. Out of the mess I found an extra set of cams, a diff, tools, extra interior parts, fenders, headlight assemblys and a 5 lug conversion and got knows what else. the interior was trash for the most part so the seats and carpet and whatnot got canned

SE hatch of doom

I turned my attention towards getting this pig running because its been a pain in the a** to push it around everytime I want to work on it so i got the intake manifold on after I took the power valve assembly out( mostly due to boredom at work and plans for boost next year) and got a Pacesetter full length coated header and replaced the rubber rag joint on the steering shaft with an aluminum piece while I had it out, used the extra set of s13 cams to complete a 248/248 dual exhuast cam setup and used the JWT cam gear template to degree the new intake cam properly. I got most of the accessories bolted up and got a Koyo radiator and Agency Power hoses.

so im poor ok, so i decided to fab my own catback. The exhaust got from the 1 5/8 headers to 2.5 inch primary to an adapter i made to go to 2.5 to 3" all the way back to a 3" in/out magnaflow muffler and a 3" in/4"out tip. I know 3" is big for a mostly stock KA but i don't wanna make another exhaust when i boost it

so i completed the 5 speed swap, which i seemed to have lost the pictures up, so yea...I hung the new pedals, cut the hole for the clutch master cylinder, spent like 5 bucks for some 3/16" hard brake like and fittings and put it all together. I wired in the reverse lights, bypassed the shift inhibitor, just gotta figure out the VSS wiring. i had no seats so i got 2 Corbuea Forza's and the sliders+ brackets to bolt them up. FYI get side mount seats. Im only 5'7" and i felt like i was sitting WAYYYY too high

My head almost touched the headliner and would never be able to wear a helmet. So me being the cheapskate, i cut up the drivers side seat bracket, tossed to sliders to lower the seat as much as possible and ended up with something like stock height, only now, there is no adjustment....

well there was a point where i didnt even look at this car for about 4 months, after getting so frustrated with a no spark issue that i couldn't figure out. last summer i had no spark, so i swapped an extra coil, ignition module, and distributor and still no spark. so i borrowed a known good ECU from a friend and i had spark....so i bought an ecu, and it had no more spark, so i though maybe the new ecu was bad to i tried my buddys ecu again and NOTHING!!!, so i checked every wire in the harness and it was good so i left since. the nice weather we've had lately, i got back in it. i pulled the engine harness out, pulled the tape off, checked every inch of every wire and it was all good. so i said **** it, i put the harness back together nice and it worked! how, i have no idea, but here it is. it sounds too awesome for the 248/248 cams because the intake cam was off 1 tooth but i fixed it. and its gutted on stock suspension, which is why its 9 feet off the ground. tax return soon, so that will be fixed

So after I finally got the car running, I ran into a few issue's, one of which was when i pushed the clutch in every once in a while I'd get a nasty squealing noise and i wouldn't be able to put it in gear. Now, I got this car with the trans already bolted to the motor so i left it. the car was originally a automatic trans. so I thought for a second and figured the kid i got the car from forgot to install a pilot bushing into the back of the crank. well i whipped the trans out today and it was much worse.whats in my hand is a plug for the crank that wasnt removed from the crank for the 5 speed swap. the tip of the input shaft was like a hot dog down a hallway and right where the input shaft widens at the splines, was jammed against the butt plug and was making all that noise and not letting me disengage the trans from the motor when i put the clutch pedal down. heres a picture of the plug on a spare input shaft i use to install pilot bushingsput a new bushing in that I had laying around at work(every Nissan bushing is the same) the problem is gone and shifts nice which leads me to my next post.

pretty much all 5 speed 240's have the floppy shifter. HKS and other companies sell a spring and cap kit too stiffen the shifter up nice in its side to side movement. thats cool except the kits cost nearly 100 bucks. **** that haha. I took the springs out and went to the hardware store to match some up that were stiffer.on the left is the new beefier spring i got from the hardware store, you need 2 of them, and cost me .30 cents each. on the right is the wimpy stock spring that is barely suitable for a clicky pen.so the new springs were slightly larger in diameter, so i had to drill the holes in the cap bolts to a 1/2 inch. and viola!re-install the parts and no more limp **** shifter!!
