So I have suddenly experienced a dramatic loss in fuel economy in my '03 g35 coupe. I changed the air filter about a month ago and ever since then it has been getting about 30% less MPGs. I checked to make sure the filter was installed correctly and it is, and I don't think I screwed up any sensors when swapping the air filter out so I am confused as to what may be causing it. I used to get about 360 miles/tank, but now I get just over 200 before I need to refill the entire tank.

There have been no indicator lights and everything seems to work normally. It is idling the same and appears to have as much power as always, so I don't know where to even look.

Has anyone experienced this before?

have you tried reseting the ECU so it will relearn everything? easy way is to unhook battery and hit brakes a couple times...

also make sure you MAF sensor is not dirty or got oil on it from a aftermarket filter such as K&N.

Yeah, try resetting the ECU first and see if it relearns and mpg goes up.

What type of filter did you install? Are your driving habits the same? Did you do anything else a month ago?

Here is my $.02

Put an OEM Nissan Air Filter back in, fill your gas tank and drive 100 miles non stop. Re fill the tank and divide the miles traveled by the number of gallons it took to refill the tank.
I'd try that before resetting the ECU since you stated the problem began after you changed the air filter.

Good luck
