So as you all know I just swapped in a ka-de into my 89 240 and fixed many things that the mechanics did wrong already. But now I have this WHOLE new prob. There is a severe amount of hesitation in the engine that occurs at random. I can be driving in third gear for example, just down the street and have the car try and die on me like three times in a row. Shift to fourth same thing happens. I have no idea whats going on, has neone here had the same problem ever?

Does it idle rough, or it just starts to die on you when driving?

it starts to die and the idle is just fine, btw cold start requires me to push on the gas pedal several times too

Make sure all your plugs are plugged in, and wiggle some around, like the tps plug and maf plug.

#1, check the battery charge. It is overlooked as a problem alot.

the book says probably clogged or leaky injectors, possibly clogged fuel filter, cross referencing the two problems that is.

But it could also be an incorrect gapping of the spark plugs, faulty wires, or a worn distributor rotor.

There are plenty of other reasons this could be as well, but you need to check out these two

Just to clarify, this hesitation and sudden dying, is completely random, and occurs at anytime, with no pattern. The only reoccuring thing is when I hit high rpms at which point the car begins to stutter and have hesitation. Also when I try and take off fast, the car will hesitate and almost die... gonna check the tps

also, could the hesitation be possbily caused by bad grounding? Cause when I got my car back from the mechanics there was this giant red wire hanging off the transmission, it looked like grounding, and this whole time it has just been sitting there... could this be the prob?

As for the problem at hand..the list of things that it could be are pretty long. but in order for an engine to run it only needs 3 things.1. Air Fuel mixture2. Spark at the right timing3. Compression.

It obviously runs so compression is out. From there Check the fuel injectors, make sure they are not clogged or the injectors are lazy. make sure the spark is coming at the right time ie check your timing. Somebody else suggested wiggle testing which is a good idea. I would also suggest checking the ground on your car...honestly adding extra grounds to a car is never a bad idea

glad to hear you finally got an engine worth somethin to match that paint job lol. Hey if you want help I might be able to swing by sometime and help diagnose it for you.

really? you could help me with that? that would be so cool! as for the list of things to go over, compression is definetly out, I got like above par compression on all four cylinders, spark timing sounds like the only thing left, as my car is running a good mix right now.

OK so I ran some fuel injector cleaner through the system, but it only made the hesitation less dramatic, its still there. As for the start up it doesnt start very well at all. I spent one morning trying to start it for at least 20 minutes. So cold starts, are very hard. I dont know what else to do... Hybrid, come by any time, just call me up on the cell and let me know when you can, 925-785-4338 my name is alex. And I just got a brand new floor jack! woot!

when you ran the injector cleaner, how long did it take you, what color was the exhaust, and how many bottles did you use??

yeah you know that consumer injector cleaner is a bunch of crap...

i used to use the grade that dealerships use, the oil, gas and intake method.

you know that random cutting off stuff got fixed for me when i tried replacing the oxygen sensor. I hope it helps.
