hi, I'm new to this forum. I bought 07 m35x two weeks ago and I have several questions.According to the manual, gas above 91 is recommended. I used to put fuel which is mid-grade at any gas station without reading fule octaine number actually. I'm curious if engine sounds different or the way I feel when I'm driving is different or something if I put fuel which is under 91.Also, my tire pressure was around 32 and I put some air after long distance drive, but then the indicator on the navigation does not show the pressure in number, there was just a * mark appeared for all four tires. I don't know if it's because tire pressure was higher than it recommends or something.Lastly, my hand or finger prints stay on the exterior whenever I touch the car. Does any of you know what kind of coating or painting stuff is used for m35? it's sometimes annoying whenever I look at the car.Thank you for reading ^^

You're not going to feel any difference putting in different fuel.

As for the * reading on tire pressure, you just need to drive a little bit to allow the car to make a reading.

As far as smudges...haven't really noticed that. I only put my finger on the lock/unlock button on the door handle. I'd say get a good wax job at a detail shop and keep your paws off of it

I may be able to help with a couple questions you have.

The octaine level determines how easily the gasoline will burn and its ignition point. You may not necessarily notice a difference if you use lower octaine gas depending on how you drive your car. On an average car, you just use the regular 87 octaine and everything is fine. Using a higher octaine gas doesn't increase performance. On your M35x, the engine is specificly engineered for performance and intended to run off 91 or higher octaine gas. The increased compression pressure and temperature inside the cylinder requires higher octaine gas. The higher octaine gas is actually harder to burn. This prevents the gas from igniting in the cylinder before it is supposed to and prevents mutiple ignition points in the cylinder which will result in "pinging." Pinging, over time, will result in internal engine damage.

So in short... You may not feel or notice any difference in performance or sound, but lower octaine gas will damage your engine. I think it would be safe to say that after spending what you just did on your, no doubt, beautiful car, the extra $3.50 or so per tank of gas is just a cost of doing business.

Question 2 is much simpler... If it's the same as my '03 M45, the tire pressure will only be displayed after driving the car for a bit after starting it up.

I don't know about the paint, I can't help you there.

Hope this helps...

Enjoy your car!

That sounds like plenty of time, it should register within a few seconds... But you have to check it while you are moving. It's about a 5 mph minimum for it to register. When you stop moving, the display will go back to showing ** (I think).

And by the way, if it's like my '03 M, there is no rhyme or reason to the order in which the tire pressures are displayed. The computer is recieving 4 signals (one from each TPMS unit) and it just lists them at random. If one is low, you'll need to check each tire with a tire pressure gauge to figure out which tire has what pressure.

FYI: The 06-07 are different than your 03. The TPMS actually shows the position of the tires on the vehicle and the PSI. But like the 03, there is no rhyme or reason as to the order of how the tires show up on the screen,

I have a 2007 M35X. Once, after service, it took almost a month for the tire pressures to read, but eventually they did.

After I brought mine in for the 7500 service (tire rotation) I had the dreaded **. After driving about 100 miles they started reading again. The next time I was by the dealer I spoke to the service manager and he said he was not aware that when they rotated the tires this would happen. When I brought it in for the 15000 service (tire rotation) they read right away, I guess the dealer re-sync'd them. From what I have read in other forums, as long as you do not change the sensors, the TPMS will reset itself....eventually. The dealer can always re-sync them for you.

I have had the same issues with my Black '07 M35X. I try not to touch the exterior other than the lock area, but my 3 year old can't keep his paws off of the car leaving tiny hand prints all over it. I recently had the car professionally detailed and got a real good coat of wax on there and that seemed to help.

Also..word of advice, be careful at car washes that hand dry, the clearcoat on the M is very sensitive and prone to swirl marks.

Regarding the tire pressure sensor, iv'e had the same problems, especially after I put air in the tires. It eventually starts working again.

Regarding the gas: My dealer actually told me to ignore the manual that the M35's are designed to run off of regular gas. I still prefer higher octane gas, because of the reduced "pinging" and it does seem to handle better with the higehr octane but that might be phsycological.

Hope this helps
