I have a 94 J30 with 92k. Car is a southwest car that has no rust problems and has been garaged much of its life. I just got the car and it had the following issues.
1) At low idle, the car feels/sounds like it is not hitting on all cylinders when I gun it. It idles smoothly but, doesn't seem to want to take the gas in one cylinder. It smooths out at higher rpms (above 1500). On the highway, you can't tell it. It accelerates fine. Only when you first start off and only if I start off slowly, can this issue be detected. I tried injector cleaner to no avail. Four injectors were replaced just before I got it. I am wondering if another injector is just about plugged or, if one of the spark plugs is fouled because, as I heard it from the previous owner, gas was coming out of the tailpipe meaning that one or more cylinders were not firing. What is the best approach to diagnosing the problem?
2) The antennae will not go up. I can hear the antennae motor coming on but, antennae stays down. I can raise the antennae manually. I know that there is a gear that can go bad or some kind of strap mechanism that can mess up. On some cars you can find replacements just for the gear or strap. Any suggestions?
3) Trunk will not release by remote control or by switch in car. I have got to use the key but, you have to sort of jiggle it for it to work. I am worried that the key will not work one day and I will be stuck with a trunk that will not open. Thing is, when I got the car, the trunk opened fine. In just the 4 days that I had it has this problem arisen.
4) Passenger door will not lock with remote control. The door lock will move to the lock position but, doesn't seem to go quite far enough to lock the door. Just a little push of about a quarter of inch seems to be enough to cause the door lock to engage. Since the resistance in the door lock feels like it could be fixed with some lubrication, I am thinking about removing the door panel and doing just that. However, I know that removing door panels must be done gently especially with older cars to keep from separating glued parts or breaking fasteners. Any guidance here???
Thanks for all your help.
