I just got my 240sx finally, sr20det swapped by the way. Car runs very good, just some issues. Let me break it down for ya'll. Here's the list;

- Door light indicator intermittently blinks when driving; it will dim then get brighter. Even though all doors are closed shut.- Bouncy speedometer, it works but it'll bounce with the movement of the car.- When shifting into any gear, I can literally move the shifter lever left to right about 3 or 4 inches. - When making slow turns, I hear clunking/clicking, owner said it was due to the P/S system being removed- At complete stops, if I tap on the brakes it will make a clunk sound; and btw it has 300zx front brakes

So far the things I can think of, I would appreciate everyones suggestions, tips. Thanks

Door light : Check the sensors on the doors and see if your door is not closing all the way. If it is, check the door catch.

Speedo : Maybe a bad speedometer?

Shifter : If it's floppy, it's time to rebuild your shifter or buy a new one.

Clunk in turns : Worn out bushings?

Clunk when braking : Other people, including me have this problem. A lot of it went away when I replaced my front sway bar bushings, I'll be replacing other bushings as well, and should remove the odd clunking sounds.

So probably wornout bushings.

I read maybe the speedometer cable might be faulty???

The door closes properly because the door indicator light will turn off when the doors are shut. But then when I start driving the door indicator light will flicker for some reason. It looks annoying, same issue with my friends 240sx when he had one.

The clunk when turning, according to the previous owner says its from the steering rack. The car had P/S and was removed, and I guess there's no P/S fluid going into the steering rack, which is causing the noise??? This is what he told me, is there a fix to this annoying issue?

The speedo is electronic on the 240....no cable. Older cars did use cables that frayed and would give false readings. You might check the gear on the sensor(it's on passenger side of trans..held on by one 10mm bolt). My bet would be you have to replace the speedo head though. It's held to the cluster by three phillips screws. It's about a 20 minute job to drop the cluster. One trick in doing that is take out the front two bolts entirely and the steering column and just loosen the rear two enough so the cluster will clear when you pull it out. I had to do this already..same symptoms...

Bouncy Speedometer = Bad Speedometer

Dead or Dying Speedometer = Bad Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) in transmission

I will look into that thanks, along with the clunking there's clicking too on slow turns.

The brakes issue, actually when the car is rolling or low speed motion. When I tap on the brakes it will create that clunk or clack. Axles possibly??

Also when accelerating medium to hard, I'll hear a hum with vibration. But won't do it if I'm easy on the acceleration or due soft acceleration. Axles possibly as well??

Thanks again guys!

Should I just get another intrustment cluster? Or replace the speedo head/gear as mentioned? If so, what is the part number. I can't seem to find it anywhere on nissan vendors.

Are you sure your doors are shut properly? My doors don't close properly unless they're closed harder than average. Well, I think my driver's door isn't as bad but then again maybe it's cause I'm just so used to it, but everyone who's been in my car through the passenger door hasn't shut it all the way (it closes and if it's locked you can't open it, but the door isn't fully closed), and some people don't do it right so many times.

As for the clunks it's probably your subframe bushings. I have a similar problem, but usually when shifting/using the clutch.

hmmm, you know I actually checked on that. When I shut the door it seems closed, it locks and everything. But Im still able to push the door in about another inch or so? It's probably the door catch as you mentioned before. How would I fix that part? If it indeed is the problem.

Ball joints, subframe bushings, boots, etc. Should I just replace them all or just certain ones that are probably the culprit?

Thanks again
