What class are you racing in (and what are the restrictions)? Or is this just a car you're building for fun at track events?

I don't want to recommend anything you're not allowed to use.

gonna be tracking it every weekend, just open track no classes but i do want to be able to beat up on c5's, porsches, evo's. so 400 hp at 2500 lbs looking to run 275's all around ( with fender flares/widebody either or) . i have 3000 to spend on whatever i need coilovers sway bars etc. for such a light car with a 50/50 weight balance this car should have no problem beating up on c5's all day long, i just need a suspension that will let me stay with them or beat them in the turns. i have plenty of track experience, just not with 240's

Get some high quality coilovers and save the rest for tires.

The OP hasn't mentioned tires...good point.

As for sway bars, Suspension Techniques sway bars are a pretty good bargain. Less than $300 for front and rear together, as I recall.

You may also want to check your bushings. The OE ones are liquid filled and may well be oozing goo by now.

3k is a border line because with just a little more you could run higher end coilovers, finish off the rest of the suspension, and run good tires

its still a compromise budget for suspension/tires/brakes, and most likely youd take away from the coilovers to finish other areas, but just a little more money and it could be finished off with all higher end parts

Tires are really going to be a problem for you, at least in the wallet department.

If you have the power/driving ability to compete with purpose built porsches, vettes etc, you are going to need an excellent tire, and in 275's, excellent tires dont run cheap, and don't last long.

Running with an open differential or even the OE VLSD isn't going to help either.

lol, agreed.

I think you can go ahead and hang up this notion of competing with high end sports cars using only a weekend warrior.

275 17 tires are cheap enough for me, nitto R2's run 150-175 a piece and thats not gonna break my bank at all, and kuhmos 710 tires are sticky and cheaper then the nitto's. spending 3k on just coilovers is pretty expensive, now i've seen tiens going for 1,300 so i'd assume that there are some nicer coilovers for a little over 2,000, and then sway/strutbars for another 500 or so.

and why is it so hard to believe that a car that has a 50/50 balance, weights 400 lbs, has 400 hp, and 275's all around wont compete with a porsche with less hp is crazy. 400 lbs is alot when you consider braking and handling around turns lap after lap its a huge difference, even in the 1/4 mile (which is much shorter then a road course) every 100 lbs you take off will make you .10 faster per pass. on a 2-3 mile road course this .4 10ths adds up quick.

I mean, I dont want to put you down, I would love to see you own some high dollar cars on a road course, and I hope you do.

With the right budget anything is possible, but you might need a budget bigger than 3k for suspension, because alot of those guys are running setups that cost at least 5k without tires or brakes.

Probably something along the lines of this (and this doesnt even include springs!):

here is my opinion and suggestion due to my track experience with the 240.

Coilovers - BuddyClub Racing Spec Dampener

linkages - SPL parts - appropriet parts to adjust toe and camber front and rear. Any link you dont replace, get poly bushins from pdm-racing

Tires - you got it covered, but with 400hp, you will want mroe than a 275 out back, maybe 295-315 series, which can fit outback with flares or wide body installed.

my personal setup now is 225 Hoosiers around, and with only 250whp and 2400lb car, i keep up with the vetts in my group and the porsches. I have a very basic suspension setup, with the setup i gave you, whch is what i personally will be running in NASA SE-R Cup SRX i will be able to dominate, i have seen it done and so far with my basic setup, i tend to stand out a bit and move faster then the average pack.
