Ever since I had my RB25 I could never get my base timing set. When I would hook the timing light up to the white wire loop I would always get jumpy readings. Even though the PFC commander says 15 degree's. It would always show 10-30.Well I think I figured it out today. Since I was always having to add timing to my pfc maps to get it to run well. Instead of using the white wire I used the black/red wire going from the ECU to fire the #1 coil. I get a steady correct reading. Car runs better now then ever before and my timing matches up to the PFC. I figure since the white wire is power feed to all the coils you can't get a good signal off of it. So check it out and see what you get on your car.

My engine is a serise II RB25.

is there any truth to this? i think im gettin a bad signal from my White wire because the CAS is all the way to the left before i can get the timing set

i could never get a good reading off the white loop, i always had to use the power wire at the #1 coilpack. also make sure your car is warm and you unplug your TPS if you have any more problems with jumpy timing while trying to set it.

ive never liked unplugging my TPS to do timing. It never seemed to change anything for me. the thing im mainly asking is that im using the white wire loop to do my timing right now. Is tehre a difference in that vs the Black wire loop?

this is on a rb25 s2

ill try unplugging it tomorrow. I just fixed a bunch of Air leaks in my FMIC setup today and i think that might totally change everything with my idle and timing

well this morning i tried doing my timing with the TPS disconnected and i used the white loop once and with the CAS in the middle it shows about 5*. If i use the black loop with the CAS in the same place it shows 20*. Im sooo confused on which loop to use

which wire is the power wire at the Coil? the large white one?

I've always set timing with the black/red wire going to coil 1. The white loop has never worked for me. But I've never unhooked my tps while doing timing either.

Just do one wire at a time until the light flashes. I've always found the #1 coil to be way better with ign timing then the stupid white loop for both SR and RB.

im going to take a guess that its the black wire with yellow line. WHen i hook up my timing light to the black wire loop right next to the white wire loop it gives me a better reading than the white wire does i believe. When the CAS is centered the white loop gives me like 5* where as the black gives me around 20*.

im goign to take a wild guess that on the Rb25 S2 the black loop is the correct one to use

Just hook it up to anything on cyl 1 until you get a reading. Its that simple.

ima try to do that when i get another chance to. I had to pull my q45 throttle body off because its leaking air from it somewhere. Im thinking its because i didnt use a gasket between it and the manifold. Just used silicon which i figured would work but i guess not

The 'black w/ red stripe' wire is a loop just past the igniter connector (down-stream - maybe an inch or two). *hint* It may still be covered with the factory black electrical tape. Mine was. It may be on the back side of the coil-pack cover. I used mine and it worked like a champ. My timing was slightly off - 14* - adjusted my CAS to 15* and it was fine.

If you have any questions, I can try to take a pic or two and post it. It is pretty simple when you get to it. You don't have to remove any piping or the coil-pack cover. Just connect light to + and - on battery and your trigger to the loop. I also did not remove the TPS signal connector.

Also, this is on a Series 1 - RB25.

*edit* Yay for 1000 posts.

im pretty sure my black loop is black/yellow stripe instead of black/red. ima s2 tho so that might be the difference. I get alot better reading from that wire so i think thats what reading ima go with

Wasted spark setups are the ****, you have a whole plug wire to wrap it around :-p

Only if you make your own jumper between the coil and the plug like I did.
