yes a engine is made to contain explotions....but it is not made to have any obstructions during the process...hence .....internal compustion.....anyway if it works good for you but if your looking to get it done right and quick just look inside....

yeah if someone does search this thread and their cams are off then they prob got more probs than just setting the correct timing.

good luck

n

be easy

that post doesn't make much sense... its pretty easy to get your cams off a tooth here or there...

"that's why they call it internal combustion"- wtf? They call it internal combustion because that's exactly what it is... not because it's not intended to have anything "obstructing" it.

Anyway to sum things up- Looking at the cams will only tell you if you are heading towards TDC on compression stroke or on exhaust stroke. If everything is set from the factory and unmolested, you are fine with this method.

internal combustion deals with fuel/air mix, spark........Not fuel/air mix, spark, and screw driver.

what i mean is someone might search this thread and put a small screw driver down in there and possibly drop it in.......im trying to save someone from f***ing up their motor for something that would be so much easier to do by looking at the cam.

"Looking at the cams will only tell you if you are heading towards TDC on compression stroke or on exhaust stroke."---is exactly what this thread was about....

if your off by a tooth the cams should still point the right way but if the cams are off by more then they prob wouldnt point right way.....

but you guys do what you want.

J/K, don't be a meat head and you won't have an issue.

Fair enough, but you should have said that instead of "it will score the piston".

Camshaft broke and put all 4 valves in various places they shouldn't have been. Found one in the intake manifold

And now that I'm reading the original posting again, he just wanted to put the engine at TDC to take the head off so it doesn't matter if it's compression or exhaust anyway.

Touche'

Got you confused with the other member.

Btw, 3 days ago I verified TDC with a screwdriver... and thought of this thread.

Mark- that sucks about your piston... this was mine after my valves hit it.

Supertech, and I'm almost positive they were $400.
