I know that there is multiple posts on NICO for this but none that I could see for 06 m45. But I just filled up and the light came on. I checked the gas door and cap. The cap says you have to click it or the light may come on and I checked that. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks for the help.

I suspect bad gas, use premium from Exxon, Shell, BP and see if it goes away.

There are literally a thousand or so possible reasons the SES light may appear. The gas cap, although a popular reason, is but one reason.

To determine the reason, have the code read with a scan tool at a local auto parts store. The clerk will read the code for you and may even be able to explain the code in technical terms.

Report back here with your results.

If you do nothing, you may seriously damage the engine or engine management systems...or it may go away on its own. Get the code read first as suggested above in any case.

If it happend right after the fill up, the gas cap was probably not seated on correctly - click it a few times, and it should go away within a few days. If you want, you can go to an autozone and have them pull your code for you with an OBDII reader - my guess is that you'll get something like a 0442 - which would be a gas cap thing.

i would try to figure out all the DIY solutions first. I wouldn't want to walk back into the dealership and have them tell me it was my gas cap.

I took it to Chantilly. But now that I know there is a tech on this forum from the area I might have to come to Alexandria. They said it wasnt the gas cap or anything gas but it was my rear brakes getting bad which set off the light. So I will be changing those this week.

Was your Brake and Slip lights on in conjunction with your CEL?

My slip and ras light were on but it was also in conjunction with my rear brakes being worn too. That is what the tech at Infiniti said. So now I'm going to put new rear brakes on. What is CEL by the way?

CEL= Check Engine Light

If the brake fluid reservior gets low enough to trigger a low fluid level a CEL is common for an Engine Signal 4 code, RAS (if equipped) Slip, and VDC will all go into failsafe if the brake reservoir is below a certain point.

If you are planning on doing the brakes your self, I strongly recommend having the rotors resurfaced to make a fresh clean new mating surface for your new pads.

Hey thanks man yeah I am planning on doing that but I am also shopping around. If I had my own pads what would it cost me to resurface and replace at your place?

Steve, do you know of any ODBII Code Glossary online for the M or a comparable vehicle?

I don't do prices, idk what we charge. Call and ask to speak with Kevin Hall, tell him your a Nico member and he'll take great care of you. I'm not looking to solicit business here, just offering comparative shopping options.

There are many OBDII DTC indexs out this is straight from the book.

Thanks, Steve!

I should also point out that the M Service Manuals are available at NICO. This information is in there too. Link is in my sig.
