Hi, my SES light has been on for a while. After two trips to dealership and expensive repairs, light popped on again. Got tired of being clueless so bought a code reader. It says there is only 1 error code, P1130, and it is only in "pending" status. From what I've read, I thought these pending codes became hard codes if they repeat and then tripped the SES. I've cleared the code several times, SES goes out, but then returns after several trips. Code reader always returns same pending P1130 code. Not sure why it would always only show up as a "pending" code and not a true fault. Any ideas?

Also, as far as the P1130 code goes, I've checked all the swirl control vacuum hoses for blockages and they are clear. About to shell out $90 for the swirl control valve solenoid and swap out myself. Any other suggestions first?

Thanks for any input.

What did the dealership do? Are you sure all the vacuum hoses are free of pinholes and other potential damage?

I'm assuming the $90 solenoid you found is an aftermarket part. See this exploded view if you'd like to find an OEM part - the price seems to be about $140 before shipping.

Well, I didn't have a code reader earlier, so just relied on what dealer said. The first repair was to replace the cam position sensor. Second repair was to replace the swirl control vacuum switch.

Yes, the vacuum hoses all seem to be fine.

The swirl control solenoid I am talking about is under "Engine electrical - vacuum piping" on the site you linked. Part# 14956U - VALVE ASSY-SOLENOID. $95

You can try following the diagnostic procedure on EC-494 to help determine whether it is indeed the valve solenoid that needs replacement.

I have been going through this same frustating sequence with my 2001 QX4 and after replacing the SCV solenoid last night and clearing the P1130 codes I took my test drive. The SES light did not come on, but I decided to scan for the emissions status and saw that I had a P1130 Pending code. Will this resolve itself if the systems are all working or will it become a hard code?

Welcome to NICO.

If it doesn't disappear within a couple drive cycles, there is probably something still wrong. Did you check the SCV vacuum hoses for clogging?

I had this code recently and this post helped resolve the code...
