K so I bought my QX4 couple months ago with the SES light on and the guy fed me some bulls*** about my 22" rims and tire pressure was the reason why it came on and stayed on. I bought it. I didn't think that the aftermarket rims were the reason for the service engine light but could it be? The second issue would be it idles hard i already read a couple of threads on this forum as well as another one about the idle issue. I'm getting into DIY jobs on my truck and want to know if I can pick up any obd2 reader and it will work for my truck or have to get a vehicle specific one?sorry if my posts are confusing i'm trying to fit a lot of information into a post w/o it getting boringThanks

No, the wheels or tires cannot make the SES lamp illuminate, that guy fed you some serious bulls***. Most large auto parts chains will scan your OBDII port for free (but most cannot clear the codes). You can pick up any ODBII scanner, all kinds will work. The more expensive models will have more features which can be helpful in diagnostic situations such as data recording and other tools. I wouldn't recommend the more expensive models unless you are very knowledgeable about the vehicle; since you are a DIY beginner I would recommend a basic scanner which can just pull the DTC codes.

Thanks that clears up a lot so regarding to OBD II scanner when the features say it can erase the code that means it can turn off the SES light when the problem is fixed?

Yep, it means it will clear the codes and turn the SES light off.

so i bought the OBD 2 reader/scanner it came in yesterday. I hooked it up and it read NO CODE!! so I erased all the DTCs and the SES light went off and I drove around for a while and couple hours later I started my car and the light came back on. I plugged the reader in again and it still said no code anyone have a problem like this or have any solutions, guesses?

I'm not sure I have to check it when I get home. Are you thinking that the reader could be faulty?

s***ty what a waste of fifty bucks so what is a reliable reader to get? this may sound like a stupid question but if the SES light is on then that means that something is wrong right?

I just received my OBD Reader from OBD.com for $97.

It works.

Here is how I used mine:I cleaned my throttle body which then set-off the service engine light. After connecting the unit, it told me:---------------- cut/paste from log file ----------P0507 Idle Control System RPM Higher Than Expected-------------------------------------------------------This is expected according to another poster, due to cleaning all the gunk from the internal surface increased the air flow...Anyway, I hit clear and it cleared the light.

It also detected my O2 sensor voltage too high.

Does your OBD provide an error code?

It is very likely that the light will return unless you complete the Idle Air Volume Learning Procedure in the FSM. However, if you can't complete the IAVLP (you complete all of the steps properly but idle remains out of spec), then you may have fouled up the electronic throttle body actuator. The R51 Pathfinders are known for having major issues after cleaning the throttle body which usually results in throttle body replacement. Of course, if you have already completed IAVL and the SES light has not returned, then this is all a moot point.

Thanks.I think I'll try this tomorrow. I just completed reading the relearning process and of course, if it fails, I have to check the PCV valve and a possible manifold leak (maybe it's the gaskets that I re-used).

not to thread jack but pwnin, i have the drive by wire throttle body since my path is a year older, and it isnt the electronically controlled one, if i would clean it which im planning to once i loctite those valve screws this summer and change the gaskets i obv will do a full cleaning, will i have to do that idle relearn or no since mine is drive by wire? and if i do, i bet i dont have to worry about my throttle body effin up cause its not electronic like yours correct?
